A0 Sheet, Bricks, and Debris, 84x119 cm
2023
The work consists of a photo of the artist as a child, printed on a large A0 cardboard sheet pinned to the ground by a heap of debris weighing a total of 60 kg (the artist's current body weight at the age of 20). The piece reflects on the artist's biographical childhood and how it was suppressed and stifled by situations and circumstances beyond their control, cutting short the phase of childhood playfulness and carefree enjoyment prematurely. The premature call to responsibility and engagement with "adult problems" has caused a permanent deficiency in the person they are today, struggling to find lightness and to let go. Another possible interpretation of the work is the translation of the biographical into a universal reflection on the condition of Western children, whose ambitions and dreams have been radically shaped by the dominant thought focused on production, the obsession with financial success, and the achievement of economic goals instead of human and social ones.
