"Data is the new Oil" paints a dystopian future where data is the new currency and every individual is a production factory.
The artwork features four smartphones on the wall, with an incessant scrolling of content alongside images of refineries and factories. Sunlight is condensed into a time lapse while the produced data and emitted carbon dioxide are monitored.
At the end of the virtual day, the data output is displayed: 146 gigabytes and 4 kg of CO2. The piece reflects on modern society's obsession with data, suggesting a shift towards a new digital Taylorism, emphasizing that technology should not be a tool from which to demand answers, but a means through which to ask questions.
The sound design was curated by the artists.
